Podcast and media suggestions if you need to laugh and forget the real world for a little while.
Put Your Hands Together, Hosted by Cameron Esposito and Rhea Butcher
“Put Your Hands Together delivers 75 minutes of jokes and backstage chats with LA’s best and brightest comics directly to your earbuds.”
Cameron and Rhea are the most energetic and engaging hosts of a comedy podcast I’ve listened to and have great onstage chemistry (which is not surprising, since they’re married).
2 Dope Queens, Hosted by Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams
“Join the 2 Dope Queens, Phoebe Robinson and Jessica Williams, along with their favorite comedians, for stories about sex, romance, race, hair journeys, living in New York, and Billy Joel.”
Always raunchy and always hilarious.
Listen to: Episode 25, A John Hamm Sandwich
Wine & Crime, Hosted by Amanda, Kenyon, and Lucy
“Wine & Crime is a brand new true crime and comedy podcast. Join three childhood friends as they chug wine, chat true crime, and unleash their worst Minnesota accents.”
If you’re a fan of true crime, this one has me laughing in stitches every week.
Listen to: Episode 5, Crimes of Passion
The Cryptid Keeper, Hosted by Addison Peacock and Alex Flanigan
“The Cryptid Keeper is a podcast where Addison and Alex research creepy critters and ask the important questions like: does the Moth Man have a girlfriend?”
If you want to listen to a podcast by two hosts that talk a mile a minute and improvise in the middle of telling you about obscure cryptids (and you enjoy a hilarious Owen Williams impression), then this is the podcast for you.
Listen to: Episode 2, Tailypo
The Adventure Zone, Hosted by Justin, Travis, and Griffin McElroy (and Their Dad, Clint)
“Justin, Travis and Griffin McElroy have recruited their dad Clint for a campaign of high adventure. Join the McElroys as they find their fortune and slay an unconscionable number of… you know, kobolds or whatever in… The Adventure Zone.”
If you’re a fan of roleplaying games and absurd humor, this is one long and twisting narrative that frequently goes on strange tangents might be for you.
Listen to: Ep. 7. Moonlighting – Chapter One, or start at the very beginning
The Karen & Ellen Letters, Hosted by Josh Hallmark
“The Karen & Ellen Letters are the collection of 3 years’ worth of correspondence between a landlord and his two very dumb, very demanding tenants. The podcast chronicles the host’s journey to authenticate the letters, with dramatic readings of the letters, and guest commentary from comedians, other podcast hosts, and friends.”
I was so unsure when I started listening to this podcast… and then I reached the end of the first episode and had to keep listening. It only gets more ridiculous.
Listen to: Episode 1, Lists 1 & 2
Lastly, two shows that don’t need to be highlighted, but still make me laugh and feel better about the state of the world: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
